Interview – Questions & Answers
SOME Q & A WITH VANDANA SHUKLA:
Q. How do you blend traditional Indian art forms with modern livelihood opportunities for women?
Vandana Shukla: “I’ve always believed that our roots hold immense strength. I focus on reviving traditional Indian crafts like macramé and painting, but with a modern twist. Instead of limiting them to just decorative pieces, we transform these art forms into usable home décor products that appeal to today’s market.
I train women in these crafts and then support them in creating market-ready products. These items are showcased and sold through exhibitions, social media platforms, and interior design collaborations.
What started as a small workshop has now grown into a movement under the name Kasba Line, which has reached over 50,000 households. Each sale doesn’t just generate income—it carries forward a piece of our cultural heritage and gives women a meaningful role in the economy.”
Q. What impact have you seen from offering free bridal services at community weddings?
Vandana Shukla: “Offering free bridal services has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my journey. Many of the brides we serve come from humble backgrounds where even a simple salon visit is considered a luxury.
When they see themselves as brides, beautifully adorned and confident, the emotions are indescribable. Through Belle Salon, we’ve aimed to provide more than just makeup—we give them a memory that they’ll treasure forever.
These moments of joy, dignity, and self-worth are priceless. We’ve seen tears of happiness, heartfelt thank-yous, and blessings that stay with us long after the event. The impact goes beyond aesthetics;
it touches lives in the most personal way. And honestly, the gratitude we receive is the most beautiful reward I could ever ask.”
