Minu Subadar

Minu Subadar is an embroidery artist, creative designer, embroidery design documenter and independent researcher from Jorhat, Assam. Her creative work centres on handmade embroidery, textile art, design documentation and contemporary presentations of traditional artistic practices. She explores the intersection between traditional needlework and modern creative media, developing embroidery collections, digital e-documentaries, and research-based design projects. Her work highlights Assamese cultural heritage, floral motifs, and the transformation of visual forms into contemporary textile designs. Minu is also interested in digital illustration and AI-assisted design exploration, and she continues to enhance her academic and professional skills through higher education and specialized training.

Minu Subadar completed her High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) from Sarojini Devi Uchha Balika Vidyalaya, Board of Secondary Education, Assam, in 2008 with 41.3%. She pursued Higher Secondary Education (Arts) at Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, finishing in 2010 with 47.6%. She earned her B.A. in Philosophy (major) from D.C.B. Girls' College, affiliated with Dibrugarh University, between 2008 and 2013, scoring 41.56%. Currently, she is pursuing an M.A. in Philosophy through distance education at Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU), admitted in 2026.

In 2026, Minu undertook a two-month Skill Development Training at CSIR–NEIST, Jorhat, under the Floriculture Division. The training gives her practical exposure to floriculture and links naturally with her work on floral motifs in textile design.

Currently, Minu is pursuing a Smart Accounting course at the Society for Information Technology Development (SITD), Jorhat. She completed a Cyber Security course at AMTRON (Assam Electronics Development Corporation) and a Microsoft Office Package & Internet course at Path Finder Computer Centre, Jorhat, earning Grade A in 2010. These trainings strengthen her skills in digital safety, documentation, and technology use in professional settings.

Minu Subadar has undertaken multiple skill-oriented courses, including Hand Embroidery and Creative Design Development (Jan Shikshan Sansthan, 2016), Skill Development Training (Jan Shikshan Sansthan, 2025), Digital Fashion Illustration Basics and Fashion Brand Development (Cursa, 2026), Diploma in Interior Design and Fashion Designing Principles (Alison Online Learning), and more. She achieved 100% in Interior Assessment and 97% in the Final Assessment for Interior Design, and 88% in Fashion Designing Principles. She is continuously upgrading her skills relevant to design, art, and technology.

Minu Subadar worked as an Insurance Consultant with HDFC Life Insurance from 2018–2020, gaining experience in client interaction, customer service, relationship management, and professional documentation, providing her with a structured, corporate perspective outside her creative pursuits.

Embroidery is central to Minu's art. Her work spans handmade needlework, decorative textile design, and pattern documentation. She regards embroidery as more than a decorative craft, using motifs for cultural and creative exploration, and presents traditional forms via contemporary and digital media. Her practices include hand embroidery, textile art, surface design, floral motif development, heritage-inspired design, digital illustration, and contemporary textile design.

ART IN EVERY STITCHES is a signature collection documenting handmade embroidery and original decorative patterns. The project emphasizes the craftsmanship and artistic value of needlework. Its e-documentary format blends traditional embroidery with digital storytelling. KARUKRITI is another e-documentary project, focusing on contemporary visual documentation of embroidery and expands Minu's efforts to digitise and preserve traditional embroidery art.

Minu’s research explores the connections between traditional craft, Assamese heritage, architecture, embroidery, and modern design. Her activities include field-based documentation, study of architectural ornamentation, motif extraction and stylisation, and AI-assisted design exploration. She examines how architectural elements from Assam, especially Sivasagar, inspire new embroidery and textile patterns.

Minu Subadar presented her work at the National Seminar “A Deep Insight into the Philosophy of Srimanta Sankaradeva and Madhabdeva in the Present Day Context” (24–25 June 2026), with her paper “Reinterpreting Satra Floral Motifs through Contemporary Embroidery: Inspired by the Aesthetic Vision of Sankardeva and Madhavdeva.” In May 2026, her research paper “A Design-Oriented Study on the Floral Transformation of Architectural Elements from Sibsagar Monuments into Contemporary Embroidery Patterns” was published in the Journal of Textile Engineering and Fashion Technology (Vol. 8, Issue 1). It used documentation and AI-assisted design to transform historic floral elements into embroidery patterns.

Minu Subadar was awarded the International Icon Award 2026 by International World Records, featured in Dainik Janambhumi (24 June 2026). She received the Rashtra Gaurav Samman for Best Research Work on Embroidery Designs and Conservation through Digital Medium (2026), the Women Icon Award (2026), and the Swami Vivekananda Pride Achievers Award (2026), all recognising her artistic, research, and documentation achievements.

The Assamese daily, Dainik Janambhumi (Guwahati edition, 24 June 2026), featured Minu’s international recognition. The article highlighted her e-documentary ART IN EVERY STITCHES and her contributions to embroidery documentation and digital communication of traditional art, emphasizing her creative reinterpretation of Assamese craft for new generations using modern technology.

She believes in preserving traditional embroidery through practice, documentation, research, and digital storytelling. Her creative philosophy centres on THREAD • HERITAGE • DESIGN • RESEARCH • DIGITAL CREATIVITY, aiming to record traditional motifs and reinterpret them for modern textile and embroidery design.

Minu plans to continue her work in embroidery, textile design, and heritage documentation, deepen her digital and plant-based creative skills, and contribute to preserving and presenting traditional art for contemporary audiences. Her skill development in floriculture, computer applications, and accounting will support creative projects and entrepreneurial efforts in the future.
