Early Life and Education
Charanya Gurusathya was born on 4 July 1983. She is an Indian Bharatanatyam artist, researcher, and educator based in Pune, India. She was initiated into Bharatanatyam under Smt. Padmini Ravi and later continued her advanced training under The Kirans of Bangalore.
She holds dual master’s degrees, including an MBA in Human Resources and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts (Bharatanatyam). She is also currently pursuing PhD research in the field of dance.
Artistic Career
Charanya Gurusathya is a professional Bharatanatyam performing artist, teacher, and choreographer. With more than two decades of experience, she has performed in over 500 dance festivals and events across India and internationally.
Her performances, lecture demonstrations, and workshops have taken place in countries including the United States, France, Germany, and India. Her work contributes significantly to the promotion and preservation of Indian classical dance traditions.
Natyashala Academy of Fine Arts
Charanya Gurusathya is the Founder and Artistic Director of Natyashala – Academy of Fine Arts, Pune, India, which was established in 2009.
The academy is a premier institute dedicated to Indian classical arts, particularly Bharatanatyam. Through Natyashala, she has trained numerous students and organized performances, workshops, and cultural programs aimed at promoting classical dance and artistic education.
Research and Publications
Charanya Gurusathya has contributed extensively to research in the field of performing arts and dance studies. Her academic papers have been published in international journals including the Central European Journal of Sport Sciences and Medicine (Poland) and the UK Journal of Orthopedics.
Her articles and research work have also appeared in prominent Indian dance and art forums such as Narthaki, Classical Claps, Loud Applause, SAMVAAD, and Narthanam.
Cultural Initiatives and Community Work
Charanya actively engages with the global dance community through lectures, workshops, and digital initiatives. Since June 2020, she has curated and hosted the “Digital Talk Series” discussing the impact of COVID-19 and the future of performing arts.
Her interactions with dancers and artists from countries including Australia, Bahamas, Italy, France, Argentina, and India have collectively reached more than 250,000 views on social media platforms.
She is also involved in the DEED Project with Sutradhar NGO, where she works with underprivileged children, using dance to teach life values and cultural awareness.
