VIMAL T WILSON

Vimal T Wilson was born on February 15, 1987, in Thaliparamba, Kerala, India. His upbringing gave him a close perspective on both the beauty and hardships of life, inspiring him to develop a deep sense of empathy for those facing adversity. Witnessing the struggles of families, children missing out on education, and elders living without support shaped his understanding of suffering and the importance of service.

Vimal's journey in social work began during his time as a computer operator, where he saw many capable young people struggling to pursue education due to financial barriers. Driven by the desire to make a sustainable difference, he founded Aashraya Educational and Charitable Trust, aiming to provide shelter, education, and support to those in need. The name "Aashraya" itself signifies "shelter" or "refuge," reflecting the organization's core mission.

Vimal's Christian faith plays a central role in his life and work, guiding his approach to service with teachings of love, compassion, and humility. He describes his faith as a compass, shaping both his personal and professional philosophy to serve without seeking power, but with a sense of higher purpose.

Starting Aashraya was not without its challenges. Building trust within the community, securing funding, and managing logistics required resilience and determination. Despite these obstacles, the organization made its first major impact through a scholarship program for tribal students in Wayanad, many of whom have since advanced to higher education or employment.

Central to Vimal's vision is the belief that education is liberation. He emphasizes the transformative power of education in breaking cycles of poverty and creating opportunities. In addition to education, Aashraya also works in healthcare, food distribution, women's empowerment, shelter provision, and livelihood training—adopting a holistic approach to social development.

The trust leverages technology for outreach, transparent fundraising, data management, and keeping stakeholders informed through digital platforms.
